STEM for Service is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation with a mission to improve STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) engagement for dependents and families in uniform service. Improving STEM engagement is a national priority recommended by both the White House Committee on STEM Education and Department of Defense strategic plans. Rand Corporation studies have found that as much as 80% of military recruits come from military families; families that consistently have educational outcomes below their civilian peers.
A strategy to improve STEM engagement to military families will meet two national priorities:
- Improve the pipeline of a STEM fluent workforce
- Improve recruitment, retention and readiness for the armed forces.
Support the mission of STEM for Service by getting involved through financial donations, organizational support and participating in events.
